Cover depends on the tool's safety status.
Coverage levels
- PAT Verified — full cover: the tool has a current, approved PAT certificate on file.
- Recommended (PAT optional, not tested) — limited cover: accidental damage only, up to the deposit value.
- Unverified high-risk — no cover: high-risk mains tools without a verified PAT test are hidden from search and are not covered at all.
What cover includes
- Accidental damage to the tool during the hire period.
- Theft of the tool during the hire, where a crime reference number is provided.
- Reasonable repair costs agreed between both parties.
What cover does not include
- Normal wear and tear, blunt blades, worn belts or used consumables.
- Damage from misuse, modification, or ignoring the manufacturer's instructions.
- Injury to people or damage to property caused while using the tool.
- Tools used commercially where the listing says home use only.
- Loss where the handover and return checklists were not completed.
Claims process
- Stop using the tool and take photos straight away.
- Message the other party through ToolPeer within 24 hours of the return time.
- Complete the return checklist and note the damage on the booking.
- Send us the photos, the booking reference and any repair quote.
- We review the evidence and confirm the outcome, usually within five working days.
